Philately will get you nowhere – a great night
Northwich Philatelic Society were treated to a great presentation on 8th October 2013 by Mike Roberts entitled “Philately will get you nowhere – the pitiful waste of life of a chronic Stampaholic”. Mike was insightful, funny and told some wonderful stories of his engaging journey through a life of philately, starting at just four years old.
His presentation included, as we may have expected from the title, a wide range of collecting interests including Commonwealth Africa, particular the keyplate Edward VII stamps of Gambia including a wonderful collection of the ‘Glover flaw’, Postal History from Iran and Whitehaven (quite a contrast!), Pakistan and SIerra Leone TPO and censor mail.
Mike travelled over from Huddersfield and everyone who attended was very grateful that he had made the effort to do so. He received a certificate from the organising committee in recognition of his talk and members took time to examine the exhibits and talk to Mike.
The photographs below give an idea of what the evening was like including a break for a nice cup of tea!
