A trip around George VI Hong Kong philately with Steve Ellis
In an unexpected but delightful change to the billed presentation, Steve Ellis regaled us with tales from Hong Kong philately during the reign of George VI.
The presentation firstly covered airmails, some pre war and then during World War II, including censored mail in and out of Hong Kong.
The presentation also covered surcharged airmail, the first flights of various countries in and out of Hong Kong and the routes these planes travelled.
It then moved onto Japanese occupation mail before addressing Prisoner of War mail, detained mail and the reopening of the Post Offices after the war.
The presentation concluded with some stamps and revenues from the colony, highlighting flaws and varieties not seen everyday.
