The development of Imperial Airways to Africa
The society are indebted to Duncan Crewe who gave a wonderful presentation on the development of Imperial Airways air and mail routes to Africa.
Having previously shown other parts of his Imperial Airways collection in 2016, we were delighted to be able to see a new part of this aerophilately display, showing the Imperial Airways development in Africa from 1931 onwards.
The display started with information on the precursor survey flights, and the first services using flying boats. The main service started in 1932 and the evening was a delightful display of covers, postcards, correspondence, timetables, airmail etiquettes and other Imperial Airways ephemera.
The vote of thanks was given by Nick Rolfe and a good turn out of members and visitors enjoyed the afternoon.
