Two Peoples, One War – A story of Italo German friendship 1937-41
We were delighted to welcome a guest speaker to our Chairmans’ Evening recently, more especially as his presentation was of material that very few members had ever seen before.
The presentation, from Clive Griffiths, told the story of the relationship between Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler which developed during the late 1930s and was characterised by a series of visits each made to the others’ country. These visits were recorded by a series of stamps created specifically for the purpose, and commemorative covers and message cards which were made available to mark the visits.
The presentation included a wide range of stamps, proofs, covers and other ephemera and made for a fascinating evening’s entertainment. The Committee would like to thanks Mr Griffiths for taking the time to come and talk to us and photographs of the display are shown below.
