First meeting of the season – Members night letters G & H
It’s become something of a tradition for Members’ nights to throw up some interesting material and as always, our members didn’t disappoint! Trawling their collections for anything relating to the letters G & H we saw a diverse range of philatelic matter and some tangential and obscure connections to the theme.
Members are encouraged to bring any kind of philatelic material that could relate to the letters in question, and you can judge for yourself, from this list of topics and the photos below, how well people did:
- Gary Kasparov v Deep Blue
- Holiday slogan cancels
- Golf on stamps and covers
- Football – The Jules Rimet trophy countries G and H
- UPU stamps, countries G & H
- Germany – cruises to west coast of Norway.
- Gibraltar
- GBFDC – Great British First Day Covers
- Gambia
- Gold Coast
- Greece – flags, maps and airmail etiquette’s
- Cape of Good Hope
- Helvetia
- Humpback Whales
The sheer breadth of stamps, covers and ephemera was encouraging, as was the amount of material each of our members have. These evenings rely on people bringing something that’s not a main part of their usual collecting area and instead, focusing on either a smaller aspect of what they collect or their side collections. It looks like we have a lot of side collections in the society!
The meeting was a great success and we look forward to the next presentation in two weeks time.
