Members’ Evening – What’s New for October 2024
The beauty about members’ evenings is that we get an insight into other people’s collecting habits and, more importantly, an insight into things we didn’t know they collected.
Members and guests didn’t disappoint this evening with a wonderful array of material from across a huge spectrum of philatelic interests.
There were, of course, displays that featured items being added to a focused collecting area, as you might expect, but those same people also offered up material that was out of the ordinary and nothing to do with their normal collections.
We saw a Registration of Business certificate from 1928, Morocco Agencies overprints, Rhodesian Admiral heads, Rhodesian Frama labels, Barbados mourning covers, a framed Punch cartoon from 1922, a superb page of Kedah Sultan Heads from 1937, Barbados Postal Stationery, an early Barbados cover, Australian cinderellas, South West Africa Registered mail, the largest stamp in the world (at one point) from the Guatemala ‘coffee’ set, Montenegrin mini sheets, a Postage Due cover with invalid Southern Rhodesia stamps and a famous G.B. error, the missing ‘p’ on Charlotte Brontë 12p.
Quite a diverse collection, I think you’ll agree. As always, here are some photos of the evening and the material shown.
